HOW TO SHOP THE SALES

[Red_shoes_pic.jpg]
A purchase is only a bargain if it fits in with the rest of your wardrobe, suits you and you can afford it. Buying odd pieces because they are on sale will just sit in your wardrobe and never be worn.

Before you go shopping know what you have in your wardrobe and know the areas you need to add to.

Look for good classic staple items i.e. a black suit, cashmere jumper, wool cardigan/jacket, white blouse.

Update your existing wardrobe with accessories - shoes, belts, bags or jewellery.

Check out the returns policy on sale goods if you are unsure when buying something.

DONT impulse buy.

DONT buy anything you need to slim to wear.

DONT buy anything without trying in on first.

Outfits MUST flatter your colour and shape. Dont go for fashion garments for the sake of fashion.

TIPS FOR LOOKING STYLISH IN THE SNOW

The snow is great but be careful where it is icey. Wear flat shoes and boots with a grip preferably rubber soles. Wellies are making a huge comeback with many designs available in high street shoe and clothes shops.

Dress in layers, think functional, make sure your clothes fit well and allow freedom of movement, keep warm and dry.

Hats, scarves and gloves add warmth, brightens up practical outerwear and adds a sense of fun and style.

For business, over dress your work clothes with a coat over a jacket and for women wearing skirts wear really thick tights or leggins (you may want to take these off once you get inside). Wear boots or sensible shoes outside and take a change of shoe for work.

UNIQUE BRIGHTON- MARIE CURIE FASHION SHOW

The show at G-Casino was a really fun evening and a great success for the Casino and Marie Curie. The 20 mins show, which I styled, staged and produced featured 11 shops - Ailsa, All that Glitters, Coast, Fruity, Hobbs, Irregular Choice, Jigsaw, LK Bennett, Luigi Menswear, Moss Bros and Posh Totty Designs. There were 8 gorgeous girls and 2 male models.

As a personal stylist in Brighton the show was a perfect platform for me to work with the local shops to show well coordinated and styled outfits for the Winter/Christmas season.

After the show our host, Sophie Corbett and I took 4 volunteers from the audience and I took them away and styled them into Marie Curie eveningwear from their shops. Our 4 lovely ladies came back onto the catwalk and wowed the audience.

Our 4 volunteers picked from the audience

All glammed up in evening outfits from the Marie Curie shops

AUTUMN TRENDS

The key looks this season are:
Minimalism - black, navy, camel, grey and white - keep the look elegant and do not over accessorise.

Retro - small waisted skirts and dresses with full skirts and below the knee length hem lines. Accessorise with gloves and structured clutch bags.

Bohemian - delicate fabrics in dusty hues of smoke greys fawn and smudgy browns and greens. Accessorise with librarian chic spectacles and wear hair loose.
Layer up in chunky kits with thin polo necks and gilets. lace is not so gothic but can be seen in blues, creams and reds.

Coats this year are dominate by the colour camel in every style from capes, single breasted, double breasted to duffle. All designers featured camel in their Autumn/Winter collections. To lift the colour accessorise with hats and scarves to suit your skin tones.

These are the 'in looks' for the season but we MUST all shop for our individual colour, style and shape and not be a slave to fashion.

Womans Weekly Magazine

Sue Hayward asked for my advice for an article in Womans Weekly magazine. I was asked for my thoughts on the best time of day and week to shop for clothes. My suggestion was to shop at 9am when the shops and changing rooms are at their quietest and when the assistants have time to help. I suggested Wednesday or Thursday the best day as the stock choices and sizes are at their best. The article appeared in the 10th August issue.

PHOTO SHOOT FOR ALLI

Alli is the new weight loss pill and we spent a day in a London photographic studio with 4 slimmers on the weight loss programme. The brief was to photograph them and their aspirations. One lady in the photo aspired to being able to wear a bikini on holiday and the other to feeling confident enough to have a family photo session. The 2 other slimmers aspired to wearing a short skirt and killer heels and a man wanted to get back to jogging.

The photographer was Pete Jones, the client was Glaxosmithkline and as stylist on the shoot I found the props and advised on clothes.

MUMS INC MAGAZINE

Mums Inc, the magazine for working Mums is out and looking great. I have a feature making over Nic at Beales of Worthing, makeup by Lancome of Beales and photography by Denise Wills

Nik arrived for her makeover at Beales of Worthing and after a chat about Nik's COLOUR, STYLE and SHAPE she went to Lancome to have her makeup applied while I chose a work and casual outfit to suit Nik and her lifestyle.

Nik is a 'Warm colour person having very golden skin tones, hazel eyes and warm brown hair colour. Nik's style is definitely 'Creative' which became very obvious once I found she is an artist and a special needs teacher. Nik's body shape is 'Curvey' with long slim legs, a definite waist line with good shoulder and bust shape.

I quickly found a perfect work outfit in GIVe which was not too formal for Niks work but gave her the smartness and the authority needed for school parents/open evenings and art presentations and meetings. Choosing a navy suit was perfect because with Niks ‘Warm’ colouring black looks too hard and for Nik’s work, too formal. Putting the teal blouse underneath with the matching Jane Shilton shoes created a very professional look. We added a parker style coat in a golden/brown and handbag also from GIVe.

For the casual outfit I chose from Esprit and picked out this Summer's colours. A bright green T-shirt with a light denim shirt and a pink cardigan over the top with jeans and a pair of Jane Shilton pick wedge sandals. The colours all complement Nik’s skin, eyes and hair and being a ‘Creative’ type the layers and chunky necklaces from Oasis made this a great outfit for Nik and one she felt really comfortable wearing.

ASCOT Ladies Day 17th June 2010

What a great day at Ascot today there were some fantastic hats and outfits and the weather was perfect. Dresses in this season's nude colours and the bold primary colours were prominent along with black and white. Some hats were querky, others bold and huge, a lot of fasinators and feathers.
