Photo shoot for THE CHILDREN'S SOCIETY

I styled a photo shoot to create a library of pictures for The Children's Society. It was a 3 day shoot at 3 different locations and I found a suitable - a school, house and community area.

We had a casting to find children, adult family members and teachers etc. At the school we had 10 children with chaperones and 4 adult models. I had to sort and fit all the children into the same uniform. At the house we made up 2 different families with other models joining us throughout the day to ring the changes.

In the community we had to show children mixing with people of all ages and we created different situations to cover issues such a bullying, social issues and positive times with friends and family.

Personal Shopping Day with the winner of the LOOK MAGAZINE competiton

Clare, a 25 year old trainee accountant from Cardiff won the fantastic competition in Look Magazine. Her prize was 2 nights at Hotel du Vin, first class travel, treatments at The Treatment Rooms, £500 to spend in Churchill Square, £400 to spend in the shops in the Laines, my Personal Shopping Service and a night at G-Casino.

We started in Churchill Square and bought a suit, outfits for work, casual, going out and a great dress for Clare's sister's wedding. Clare worked hard trying on the outfits I had put aside, we had Julia Claxton from Brighton Visitor magazine documenting our morning.

Clare had lunch while I found outfits, shoes and accessories in the 'Unique Brighton' area shops. We spent a fun afternoon with Clare buying 2 pairs of boots, patent peep toes shoes for the wedding, a coat, red statement handbag and a necklace.

What a fun but exhausting day - Clare now has to worry about which outfit to wear rather than what to wear!

DRESSING FOR BUSINESS

Dress in the workplace must be thought about as it is the first impressions many customers and suppliers have of your company and the employees. Everyone whether on the shop floor or on management level must dress cleanly, neatly, professionally and sharply.

In the 80s the buzz word was ‘power dressing’ today it is ‘self branding’ and creating your style and image.

Invest in a great suit that will make you walk tall into the meeting and make you feel full of confidence.

Suits should be well cut and of the best material affordable to enable them to hang and fit right.

Dark suits give the impression of confidence and authority and are best worn with a good plain or striped shirt and tie, or non fussy blouse/top and with stylish shoes will pull together a professional look. Dresses and jackets are a smart option for women.

For ladies, keep hemlines below the knee, hide away cleavages and sleeves should be capped or longer but not strappy.

In any work situation lead the eye to the face and eyes rather than the cleavage so stick to block colour and conservative neck lines. Be careful with jewellery that it does not finish at the beginning of your cleavage or too long that a necklace will bounce on your bust.

If you have a large bust, keep the neckline open with a v neck or rounded neck. A double-breasted jacket will make you look wider so do not be tempted by this autumn fashion for the double breasted jackets.

Also big no nos which I am sure you are very aware of - are bare midriffs, very short skirts, shorts, bare shoulders and backs. Icon Live policy to remember is - no demin.

Make up must always be kept natural and make sure that nails are well manicured. Hair should be styled or if long kept tidy. Be aware that if hair is highlighted or coloured that the roots do not dominate.

Shoes - For men wear leather formal shoes – black with a black, grey or navy suit. Always make sure shoes are clean and polished.

I believe most companies will have a policy of NO open toes, flip flops or crocs.

For presentations, pitches and interviews it is said that A splash of red – a tie for a man, a top or accessories for women, can give a confidence boost and give an impression of authority. Just be aware that if you blush under pressure or have a reddish complexion keep to blue colours.

When working from home – always have breakfast and dress for the day. Do not graze on snacks and slop around in nightwear or tracksuits. You will not come across on the phone very businesslike and you will not be sharp thinking and will be noticeably slow and disorganised.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

New Year, New You, New Confidence and how I can save you time and money

The sales are coming to an end and new season's clothes are appearing in the shops.

This is a great time to look at our image and our wardrobes to make sure we have the best selection of mix and match and dress up and down outfits for every occasion.

Last week I helped a client completely up date her wardrobe and after a consultation for me to access Carol's colour, style, shape and lifestyle. I put outfits out in 3 shops for Carol to try on during our shopping trip together.

In the first shop Carol bought a pair of jeans, a smart striped pair of grey trousers and a dress, and for the tops she bought a white long sleeved Tshirt, green checked shirt, warm grey gillet, soft red cardigan, white and pink V necked tops and a woollen sleeveless jumper. In the next shop Carol bought an animal print 3/4 sleeved smart top and grey scooped cardigan with grey flower trim. In the third shop Carol bought a skirt, green camisole top and cardigan and aubergine cord jacket.

All these pieces can be mixed and matched between the outfits bought in the different shops and Carol is confident that everything suits her colouring, shape and suits her lifestyle.

In 3 hours Carol bought 15 pieces and with these new clothes alone she can make 55 different outfits. Carol already has a pair of knee high boots and a selection of heeled and low shoes to change the look for different occasions.
